Hotel in Ridgefield or Danbury?

Hello everyone,

I am having a difficult time deciding where to stay. We are visiting a friend the end of the month in Wilton and she suggested we stay at the Days Inn located in Ridgefield as it is close to her home. Trip Advisor travelers had horrid reviews of the place so I am torn as to whether I should go with her suggestion or find lodging some place else.

I was looking at Danbury and was wondering how long it would take us to get from there to Ridgefield.

We would love some time at the Danbury Mall and could get a hotel close by. But if we have to be at our friend%26#39;s house by 10 am in the morning, would staying in Danbury be too far?

If you have any other lodging suggestions that would be closer to Ridgefield, I would love to hear it.

Thanks!

Ridgefield does not have many chain hotel/motels. There is The Elms Inn: www.theelmsinn.com. I haven%26#39;t stayed there, but the restaurant is great and Martha Stewart filmed a Thanksgiving episode there. My husband stayed in the West Lane Inn during a power failure and I put up guests there for my son%26#39;s baptism-all had nice things to say about it. See: www.westlaneinn.com/

These are both in Ridgefield.

If you are looking to be near Wilton, there is a Hilton Garden Inn on Route 7 in Norwalk on the wilton border that I can recommend (and reviewed on this site). It is an easy commute into Wilton%26#39;s town center and probably no more than 25 minutes to even the furthest location in Wilton.

Wilton and Ridgefield are both very spread out, so it isn%26#39;t practical to ask how long it takes from one to the other without know exactly where (I live in North Wilton and can be in Ridgefield in 5 minutes-others would take over 20 minutes).

There is a lot of commuter traffic from Danbury down to Ridgefield and Wilton so you could get snarled in that in the morning. Ask your friends if it is practical based on their location.

Thank you yankeemom for your suggestions. I checked out both Inns and although they were beautiful, I didnt want to pay the price for just one night to sleep. I would defintely stay at either Inn if we had an extended visit.

I made reservations at the Days Inn as that seems to be our only cheap choice. We are only staying one night so we can be to our destination the next morning on time. If it is as bad as Trip Advisor says, we will find another place for Sat night closer to Danbury so we can head home from there.

Wish us luck!

I didnt realize that Ridgefield and Wilton were so spread out so thank you for that info too.

There are many hotels in Danbury. The ones closest to the Danbury Mall (and Rt. 7, which would be your route to Wilton) would include the Hilton Gardens, and any others on Mill Plain Road in Danbury. Approx. drive time 20 min or so.

Thank you Sasha for the recommendations. We will take the phone numbers with us and call for availability if we have problems in Ridgefield.

Knowing it is a 20 min drive helps a lot too!

We spent one night at the Days Inn at Ridgefield and although we had reservations about staying there, they were overcome when we got into our room.

The room was clean and very roomy. I thought my mattress was hard and my friend%26#39;s bed sank where other bodies had indented it. So it is a matter of personal preference in that regard.

The owner was delightful and very nice and they have a Thai restaurant that has been in the Zagat book but we arrived too late to try it.

The cost was $99 with tax with Triple A discount and well worth the amount for one night.

I informed the owner about trip advisor and he said that he had a family who had 3 dogs who had arrived in the middle of the night last year. They had an upstairs room and when he discovered them the next day, he informed them that they did accept pets but they were suppose to notify management as the pet rooms were on the first floor. Of course they were upset as the pet rooms were smaller. So sour grapes can easily have someone writing a bad review. I am glad we didnt listen to them as we were able to be at our friend%26#39;s house in plenty of time with no rush.

The Ethan Allen Hotel in Danbury is probably the nicest lodging in Danbury (convenient to Ridgefield and the Danbury Mall). http://www.ethanallenhotel.com/

The hotel is collocated with the upscale Ethan Allen Corporate Headquarters and showroom. The hotel and rooms are decorated in fine Ethan Allen furniture and accessories. We enjoyed our stay there several years ago.
