I really do NOT want to take the trains/subways into NY CIty; so, I%26#39;m looking for any bus tours, 1-2 days long, from CT into NYC. Are there such tours?
We will be going to a CT Suns game the end of July or early August, and we would like to our New York City.
Thanks.
Tours from New London into NY City?
Not sure why you don%26#39;t want to take the train into the city, but this really is your best bet. You can get Metro North (Train, not subway), directly into Grand Central. It%26#39;s an easy ride and puts you right in Midtown. The ride is above ground most of the way - only goes underground once you get into Manhattan. Although the trains aren%26#39;t fancy, they%26#39;re well kept and most of them have a bar car with drinks/snacks.
Once in the city there are plenty of bus tour operators, and you could do a bus tour from there.
Tours from New London into NY City?
Thanks for your reply. Is there a website I can go to so I can check out the trains into NY City? Do you know approximately how much the fare is? Is there a charge to park on the CT end of the train system?
Thanks so much!
The train would be the best way to go, but you can not take Metro North from New London. Metro North Service ends in New Haven so you would have to drive there from New London. You are better off taking an Amtrak which goes direct from New London. Amtrak trains stop at Penn Station, while Metro North trains end at Grand Central.
Both stations are in Midtown.

Shore Line East trains connect to Metro North in New Haven so it is not necessary to drive there IF you are going during normal commuter hours. It is a commuter service so only runs in the early morning and then again in the late afternoon/early evening. No service on weekends.
Most of the trains originate and terminate in Old Saybrook which is a quick drive from New London and there is plenty of free parking at the Old Saybrook station. A handful of the trains actually originate and terminate in New London. This might be more convenient if the times are right though as far as I am concerned the free parking in Old Saybrook makes the extra ten minute drive worth it.
Thanks for the posting about the trains out of New London. I have never taken a train in my life. How far in advance do you need to get to the station? Is the station in New London easy to find? Also if you have been on the other end at Penn station, should I allow extra time at Penn station to get to my train? Is finding your train analagous to finding your gate at the airport? Once again, sorry I have never ridden the train. Thanks for any help!
The station in New London is right on the waterfront near downtown. It is pretty easy to find, if you are staying at the Radisson you can walk. It%26#39;s adjacent to the ferry terminal and there are signs for both the ferries and the ';transportation center'; which is the train station, as adjacent to Amtrak is the Greyhound and Peter Pan bus terminal. New London station is small and you don%26#39;t need to get there too early, especially if you already have your ticket. If you need to buy a ticket give yourself some extra time, of course.
Penn Station is a little more complicated and it is indeed analagous to finding your gate at an airport. There are a couple of big boards at various places in the station, the only difference is that the gate is posted only a few minutes before the train departs, not hours in advance as with an airplane. I think you%26#39;ll be fine.
Thanks for the info. I think we will be staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Mystic. Is that very far from the New London Station?
It%26#39;s probably a ten or fifteen minute drive. If you are driving from Mystic to New London you may want to see if the same train stops in Old Saybrook and take it from there. It%26#39;s a bit of a farther drive but in other ways more convenient. It%26#39;s right off the highway whereas the New London station is not. Also, parking in Old Saybrook is plentiful and free; neither is the case in New London. If we are being dropped off by someone else we%26#39;ll use the New London station but if we are driving ourselves and leaving the car we prefer Old Saybrook.
Thanks. I checked it out on Google Maps. Is it really worth the extra drive? The difference is 8.7 miles verses 24.6 miles. It seems like the parking costs would pay for the cost of gas. I could see it if I was between Old Saybrook and New London, but I am on the other side. Any idea what the parking costs are at the New London Amtrak station? I will only be doing a day trip.
I don%26#39;t as I%26#39;ve never parked there. The parking garage is not really part of the Amtrak station, it is either run by the city or privately and it serves the ferries as well and there are times, according to the ferry website, when the parking is full and you need to park farther away. You are talking less than 30 miles roundtrip in extra driving to go to Old Saybrook so unless you are driving a Hummer or gas doubles again, parking would have to be less than five bucks to be cheaper than the extra gas, and I bet it%26#39;s more than that. But obviously it%26#39;s your call.
Its interesting post but I think Jfk Airport Car Service are best service provide to Tours in New York City.
