Watch Out For Police Writing Tickets

While shopping at Olde Mystic Village last year, I was ticketed over $100.00 by a policeman for not wearing a seat belt. The police car was waiting to trap tourists as they come out of Olde Mystic Village. When I explained to him that I was from out of state and didn%26#39;t know Connecticut had a seat belt law, it didn%26#39;t matter, I received the ticket anyway. I thought I should have been let go with a warning.

This incident totally ruined my stay. I was very distressed that I spent over $300.00 for my hotel room and shopping, and the thanks I got for it was an expensive ticket.

Never again will I stay in Mystic and spend any money in that town!

How dare they try to save your life by making you wear your seatbelt!

The policeman could just as easily tried to save my life by giving me a warning when he realized I was from out of state instead of slapping me with an expensive ticket!

I don%26#39;t need to be spending my money in towns where unsuspecting tourists who may not know every rule of the road are pulled over by police after leaving popular tourist spots and given expensive tickets for non-moving violations. I%26#39;m sure the local businesses will be very happy to know that I have chosen never to return to Mystic in the summer, and I will be spending my tourist dollars elsewhere because local law enforcement won%26#39;t cut the tourists any slack!

Getting a ticket ruined your entire trip? That%26#39;s ridiculous - in addition, part of being a licensed driver is accepting the responsibility for knowing the rules of the road where you are driving - so if you intend to drive into another state, then research the laws first. Connecticut has signs EVERYWHERE that inform you that wearing your seatbelt is the law - So, if you were in Mystic Village when you got the ticket, you had been driving in the State for a minimum of half an hour - Are you blind as well?

C%26#39;mon, take your anger out elsewhere. Antone driving by local/tourist would have gotten a ticket. Don%26#39;t come back, it%26#39;s a charming place and mMstic doesn%26#39;t need an attitude.

Why was this posted in the first place? Got ticketed because you were not wearing a seatbelt?Nobody here can help you...hopefully you have learnt by now, WEAR A SEATBELT while driving, or accept responsibility for not caring

This is common practice in this area. They set up illegal roadblocks as well to leach money from the tourists. Figure most will just pay rather than contest them. Be on the lookout if visiting Mystic, Connecticut is a police crazy.

I have to respectfully disagree. I have lived in Eastern Connecticut 22 years and have never ever been in an ';illegal Police Trap';. Of course I wear a seatbelt, do not speed and use the cellphone while driving. The world will not change so we may fit in it, it is for us to change to fit in the world

Peace

I find the $100 ticket odd considering that the fine for not wearing your seat belt is only $37.00. There must have been other violations.

I have lived in Mystic for the past 25 years and have never seen an illegal road block. You%26#39;re delusional.

Additionally, Mystic caters to tourists, there really aren%26#39;t even any so called ';tourist traps';.

What exactly constitutes an ';illegal road block';? Are there specific road block zones in CT?
