I already planned our trip from New York to and around the New England States (may 08), but I%26#39;m not sure either to go via Montauk and take the ferry or to have a overnight stop in new london/mystic... What would you prefer?
If you have recommondations for hotels or inn%26#39;s, i would be thankful. Hope my english is okay ;-)

New London/Mystic or Montauk
I wouldn%26#39;t stay in New London, its not a great sightseeing town. Mystic is much more beautiful and worth visiting.
New London/Mystic or Montauk
Hello! I would definately stay in Mystic as opposed to New London. Mystic is much nicer. A hotel you can look at is http://www.innatmystic.com It is expensive but very nice. Also if you have a car you can always go a little further (15 min) and go to Mohegan Sun casino which is very nice! www.mohegansun.com
If you are going to be out in long island the best ferry is from orient point which is the north fork of long island, montauk is the end of long island on the south fork. This is an enjoyable ride if the weather is nice enough to sit on the upper deck, but can be a bit chilly in may.The ferry drops you off in new london and mystic is about5 miles away. If you are looking to save time the drive directly from nyc through mystic is only 130 miles or a bit over two hours during non-rush hour times. There is so much to see and do in New England, are you going to cape cod,do you want to see the Berkshire mountains, boston, and southern maine are all within reach by car in a 5-6 hour drive from nyc.
Take the ferry to New London and wander around on Bank Street and State Street. There are some neat places to eat and see there. Historic spots include Customs House, Shaw Mansion and Nathan Hale Schoolhouse while dining there is Lucca on Bank Street, Devs on Bank, Capt.Scotts Lobster dock in Hamilton Street, Mangetout on State STreet and Courtyard Cafe. Great coffee shops etc... and ofc. one of the best wine cellars at Thames River Wine %26amp; Spirits on Bank Street.
Overnighting...is best in Mystic.
