My husband and I will be spending 2 Saturday nights in Danbury next month(one going to and one coming from Maine.)
We are looking for a casual sit down place serving good food and one that does not require reservations. The Goulash Place sounded interesting; but, a little difficult to find? We are willing to try to find it if it isn%26#39;t too complicated a drive.
We will be staying at the Courtyard Marriott. Can anyone recommend other places within easy driving distance?
Thank you for any help you can provide us.
Need restaurant advice
The Danbury Courtyard Marriott is very close to many chain restaurants (Houlihans, Chili%26#39;s, Outback, Friendlys, Applebees), all of which are packed on Saturday nights. In fact, you%26#39;ll be hard pressed to get into a decent restaurant in this area on a Saturday night without a reservation.
It would help to know what type of food you are looking for, and also if you know about what time you will be dining.
My suggestion would be to make a reservation if at all possible. I can suggest:
Rizzutos: Italian, outdoor seating if preferred. Could be loud inside due to open kitchen. Great food.

Widow Browns: Excellent Bar/American Food.

I would recommend a short trip to the Ridgefield area if you are looking for anything besides a chain restaurant while you stay in Danbury.
See this post for ideas:

Ridgefield has some fine restaurants, but from the Courtyard Marriott, you are looking at a 15-20 minute drive one-way.
We will be driving from Western Pa. and hope to arrive in Danbury by 4 PM. That might be wishful thinking if we encounter traffic nightmares along the way.
We enjoy all kinds of food---Italian, Chinese, Thai, etc.
Do you have any opinions on the Goulash Place?
Thank you for the suggestions of Rizutto%26#39;s and Widow Brown%26#39;s.
I don%26#39;t know anything about the Goulash Place.
If you are willing to drive though, another option is ';Cafe on the Green'; in Danbury, at Richter Park golf course.
IMO, one of the best restaurants in terms of food quality in Danbury.

A wonderful California Wine list too, if you are interested.
Thank you MikeV101 and citychicky for your suggestions.
I live 10 minutes from Danbury. As someone who LOVES THE PLACE....I say the Goulash Place is GREAT! The husband and wife team who run the place are quite the characters! You have to have a great sense of humor when you dine there because you%26#39;ll find that she (the wife) can come off as being a bit snippy or short tempered (she looks as if she enjoys her drink)...however, if you smile and ';play along'; with her...she%26#39;s hysterical!! Good food...great prices! The Golash and Paprika chicken are off the hook! If you want their famous streuddel, you have to call them the DAY BEFORE to let them know. It%26#39;s made to order fresh each day by them.
Another gem we dine at frequently is The Sesame Seed....also in Danbury.

It%26#39;s housed in a little old Victorian house that has been ecclectically decorated with old toys and antiques...none of the chairs/tables match...it%26#39;s wacky, hippy chic...with a GREAT menu that has never disappointed us or any of our friends.....CASH ONLY, HOWEVER!! Highly recommended.
About 10 minutes away, there%26#39;s an awesome little family run Italian place called Sinapi%26#39;s. It%26#39;s located on Route 22 in Brewster NY. Very, very easy to get to/from your hotel. Cash only. Fantastic, easy comfortable food and folks. Very family oriented. Fantastic pizza! Best of all, the world-famous Red Rooster (classic soft ice cream/hot dog/hamburger/malt shop place from the 50%26#39;s) is located directly across the street, so you can go play some miniature golf at their course and enjoy some wicked good ice cream!!
Hi sasha57
I love your descriptions of the places you recommended. Especially the Goulash Place. And, I appreciate you including the ';Sesame'; menu. I enjoy wackiness at times. Especially when accompanied by good food.
Thank you so much for the info.
