Want to stay in New London Ct for a week

My husband and I are taking my daughter and her familiy (two teenage girls)on a trip for a week....We would like it to be near a beach...casinos nearby or within a short driving distance and plenty of things to do. Is there any rentaable vacation homes on or very near the beach...also for those of you who really know this area...what is there to do???? thanks to all. Terry

I suggest that you look into the Old Lyme and Old Saybrook areas. They are a little quiter than New London. I have friends that own houses in Old Lyme and there are always people who rent their houses out. As for things to do, there are shopping outlets less than 20 minutes from there. The Mohegan sun casino is maybe 25 minutes away. There are kayaking trips you can take. The Mystic, CT seaport is not far. The submarine base with museum is not to far. There are a lot of small CT river towns like Chester and Essex that aren%26#39;t very far. Essex has a steam train trip you can take. There is Gillette castle with hicking trails. Plenty to do.

Try the following link or google Old Lyme, CT rentals.

Check out RI - Watch Hill, Misquamaquet (sp?) or Newport.

Misquamicut gets pretty busy in the summer but is a decent beach to visit and there are definitely vacation homes that can be rented.

I love Watch Hill. Even though it also gets busy, I just like the feel of it a lot more, it reminds me more of a quaint seaside town.

The casinos are close to here, within an hour%26#39;s drive.

Besides the other suggestions in the other posts, the Mystic Aquarium is a must see in my opinion!

Try posting over on the RI forum, or do some Google searches for RI. There are tons of homes for rent in beach communities in South County (Washington County) RI all within like 45 - 60 minutes of both the CT casinos but also Newport, which I think you%26#39;d all enjoy. You can get a day trip to Block Island by ferry from either New London or from Narragansett, RI Watch Hill itself - which is right by the CT border - is beautiful but pricey, and when you get right down to it, it doesn%26#39;t have much to do unless you have a big yacht! Next beach east from there is Misquamicut which has more going on, but can be very busy and a bit honky-tonk in the summer. I%26#39;d look even further east from there.

Also a difference if it matters - the CT beaches front on Long Island Sound, which makes them pretty calm. The south-facing beaches on the RI coast front on what is called Block Island Sound but are closer to real ocean-front beaches with waves etc. Some with kids (including my family) definitely prefer the latter kind of beach.

Westerly Rhode island has alot of little beach houses.New London is still on the Long Island Sound not the Atlantic. Mystic is also close by with a quaint little historic area.

Ocean Beach in New London is a decent beach... Harkness State park in nearby Waterford (a few mins by car) is a wonderful park with historic guilded age mansion and gardens...). Rocky Neck in East Lyme/Niantic as well. Casinos and everything are near.
