Recently moved to NJ...and want to take a weekend trip to CT. Want to go to Mystic and maybe Foxwoods on Saturday, and then stop in Guilford on the way home on Sunday.
What is there to do in the Mystic area besides the aquarium?
Stopping in Guilford because I spent a few years there when I was younger...anything special to do there? I know to check out the ';green';. I think i remember a beach/harbor area being pretty???
Any where else I should stop on my way home from Mystic back to NJ? What are the nicest ocean/beach areas to stop?
Thanks!!!
Tara

if you go to foxwoods they have a very interesting indian museum. much of the beaches in connecticut are on the long island sound so your better off looking up beaches in nj which are on the ocean, bigger and nicer

Downtown Mystic is a nice place to spend 1-2 hours just walking through town, maybe stopping for lunch and browsing in the shops. There are benches along the Mystic River to sit and take in the surroundings. The Mystic Aquarium is fun as is the Seaport. Both require admission fees. The Guilford Green has a few shops and further down to the end of the road is the boat launch area which has a nice view, a few fishing boats and 2 restaurants. This will not take you long to see the green/harbor area at all-maybe an hour. You could stop at Hammonasset Beach in Madison (town before Guilford) walk along the boardwalk and you get a great view of LI Sound. There are no real %26#39;harbor areas%26#39; to speak of, just some marinas throughout the shoreline towns. I would suggest stopping in downtown Essex for a quaint small town experience (about 25 minutes south of Mystic). Essex is on the CT River and the River Museum is a nice stop at the end of Main St. You can grab sandwiches in town, and walk to the Museum and eat your lunch by the river. There are places to sit and you can watch the boats on the river while you eat. I would definitely try Essex.
From the southwest corner of the Guilford gren take rt 146 to Sony Creek. Take a 45 boat tour of the Thimble Islands some of which are in Guilford.
