I will be attending a sumer institute at Yale in July and will be staying on campus. I will not have a car, so my feet will be my mode of transportation! Can you suggest reasonably priced restaurants near campus? thanks!

New Haven has several restaurants of all price ranges in the downtown area . Do you know the address of your dorm?

Hi Amy, Restaruants are never a problem in New Haven. There is an embarrassment of riches. For the first few days til you get your bearings head toward Broadway in the strip around the Yale Bookstore (Barnes and Noble) or toward Chapel St. Lots of good choices. Probably the first one to sample would be Claire%26#39;s a student favorite since forever that serves hearty veggie food and outrageous desserts.
If the dining halls are open the food is not bad.
New Haven can be beastly humid and hot in summer and the dorms are not generally air conditioned. When we lived there 25 years ago we found a breeze from Long Island Sound arrived every night around 7.
Be sure to explore both of the fabulous art museums, cool and free.
Behind the Yale Art Gallery is a small sculpture garden where you can bring a snadwich and have lunch.
Also try Anna Liffeys on Whitney Ave - inexpensive Irish pub, great food.
Bar has great pizza, and the hamburger place across the street (awful, but the name escapes me!) has world renowned burgers.
Mamouns Falafel Restaurant on Elm is a great choice - open 365 days a year till 3 am or later!
You will find an abundance of dining options in New Haven - also pick up the New Haven Advocate - free, on most street corners, for tips on cheap exhibits, plays, restaurants, clubs, etc...
Ivy Noodle is good cheap chinese. Gourmet Heaven has a large buffet and sandwiches. Cosi is good for salads, pizza and coffee. All are located on Broadway(Barnes and Noble area). Easy walking distance from summer dorms. ..Don%26#39;t forget that NH is known for its great pizza. Sallys and Pepes are the most famous but Modern on State St is terrific!
I highly recommend the Ivy Noodle. We were attending the Arts %26amp; Ideas performance of Aurelia’s Oratorio Saturday afternoon and looking for a quick lunch. I read favorable comments on the Ivy Noodle so we decided to give it a try. Though the decor was minimal, service was both patient and efficient. We started off with steamed veggies (choy san) with oyster sauce ($3.75) which was both extremely fresh looking and tasty. The waiter next brought an order of scallion pancakes ($3) shortly followed by sesame wonton (8) in hot oil. The latter were just fantastic. Highly recommended for those seeking a quick, low cost meal in New Haven.
