Hi. Looking to do CT Wine Tour (western trail) during November with my husband. We are considering Hampton Inn in Danbury as our base hotel. Is this a good choice? Any other suggestions? We have never been to CT so we are completely unfamiliar with any of its towns/areas. I have read other posts that say stay away from Waterbury, but that is all I know. Thanks!
Stay in Danbury for Western CT Wine Tour?
I%26#39;m not sure exactly where your wine tour would go or what you are looking for in a hotel but I work in Danbury and can tell you that it is not much better than Waterbury.
Are you looking to stay along Interstate 84 in particular?
I would think that there are better bed and breakfast type places where you are going. Danbury is strip mall central with not much else to offer and not at all quaint.
Maybe if you gave us some more information about where you are going to go from a home base, others could offer come better suggestions.
Stay in Danbury for Western CT Wine Tour?
It is the western trail. Towns that have the vineyards that we are visiting are Shelton, Sandy hook, Brookfield, Sherman, New Preston, Litchfield and New Hartford. My husband and I prefer hotels to B%26amp;Bs. We also like good dining, places to enjoy a civilized cocktail (we%26#39;re not the nightclub, twentysomething types), and other, relaxed types of entertainment (live jazz, that sort of thing). I would take recommendations for anything, as I am completely unfamiliar with this area or even what to do up there for that matter. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Hi, of all the mediocre hotels in Danbury, I must say that the Ethan Allen Inn is probably the best. It is lovely, convenient to I-84, and has pretty much what you are seeking. It is housed on Ethan Allen%26#39;s headquarters so they also have a large furniture showroom to browse. Also, there is Molly Darcy%26#39;s, an Irish Pub down the street that is pretty popular among adults. Hope this helps.
I understand completely on the hotel over B%26amp;B - they are not my thing. However, I would strongly recommend a place like Ridgefield (a great town just south of danbury but still close to I-84). There are several hotels (though not chains) in town and you will have your choice of refined dining and a lovely downtown to walk around in. There is also a great museum of contemporary art in town.
The Elms Inn is one of the places you can stay. There has also been an on going talk on this forum of the best restaurants in ridgefield so you should do a search for ridgefield in this forum and you can read about different options there.
The Days Inn in ridgefield is on a major street and not in the center of town. I would say if your choice was between that and the ethan allen Inn (as suggested above) I would go with the Ethan Allen Inn and drive to Ridgefield for dinner

Thanks for your help. As I have been doing more research on this trip, I have found a website from the Northwest CT Convention Bureau. I am looking at a place called the Wake Robin inn, and another one called Boulders Inn. Looks like they both got really good reviews on this site and their websites make them each look like nice places to visit. Does anyone know if they are very pricey? We%26#39;re trying to keep the trip as inexpensive as possible (hence the whole Hampton Inn idea), but I still want it to be a nice, couple getaway. I appreciate all your help so far.
Have not stayed at either. Spent a few hours in the restaurant at Wake, and was not impressed.
The Boulders Inn is BEAUTIFUL. The location is magnificant and the food is wonderful. The restaurant prices are a little pricey.
Not far from Boulders is The Cornwall Inn. It may fit your budget. bedandbreakfast.com/connecticut-cornwall-bri…
Stay at Microtel Inn %26amp; Suites - Bethel/Danbury line.
I was there and loved.
Cleaned, friendly and a wonderful breakfast.
