fairfield university area

I would like to come up to see my niece at Fairfield University. Can anyone suggest places to stay, and some fun things to do in the area with a 19 year old. She probably would like to stay off campus for the weekend, so something with a suite type atmosphere would be great. Don%26#39;t know anything about the area at all. She does have a car, so short driving distance to an inn in a cute town might be a consideration. Nothing too fancy or stuffy. just laid back with good room service! All suggestions welcome. I will be driving up from the Philadelphia area, so I would prefer not to go too far above Fairfield. Thank you.

I would suggest the Wesport Inn - they have just redone the place - great NYC style resturant right inside. Or the Sea Grape Inn had FABULOUS rooms and is right down by the beach (i%26#39;m sure she is familar with this area, lots of the college kids live there and party on that block).

Other then that there is limited choices (that are nice) in the Farfield area, check out www.ctnow.com for ideas of things to do! New Haven (about 25min from Fairfield) has great theaters and restruants.

thanks for your response! Are the restaurants you suggested something that would appeal to a 19 year old? Also, she loves Italian food, and is quite the expert at good Italian from her grandmother. Does not have to be fancy, but a lively atmosphere is something she would enjoy. Are these places BYOB. Asking because so many places here are BYOB. As far as the area by the shore, is there much open in the fall? Again, I am totally unfamiliar with the area, so I appreciate your expertise and suggestions.

They just built a new Best Western in Fairfield - The rooms are nice and clean. Fairfield is not BYOB, and it isn%26#39;t a shore town that closes down in the fall - you will find a ton of fall festivals, antique shows, craft fairs, etc... - Fairfield is a short train ride from NYC - you can shop in downtown Fairfield and find many great restaurants. Other fun areas to investigate are Sono (South Norwalk) and downtown Westport - You also have the Trumbull, Stamford, and Milford malls within a half hour drive.
