Accommodation in May 2007

I%26#39;m hoping someone can help. My family of 3 will be attending our son%26#39;s partner%26#39;s graduation/commencement at Yale in late may 2007 and already every hotel I have tried is full. I%26#39;m not sure whether this is just block booking in advance by the hotels or if they really are booked out in advance. We are getting a bit anxious and definitely need to have somethink definite as we are coming from New Zealand!. Any suggestions will be most welcome. We are spending most of our time in New York with our son so only need 2 nights, may 27th and 28th.

Thanks in advance..

Hi Mary, One reason that i%26#39;m the ';local expert'; is that I just went through the graduation process at Yale myself. I had to book rooms for a bunch of relatives for our son%26#39;s graduation. It%26#39;s true that people who know about this date do book ahead. But we found the best solution was to use the

on campus option. Because we had handicapped guests we were assigned to ';swing space';, a new dorm that is used to house students while their dorms are renovated, an endless proceess at Yale. The rooms are lovely . Even the older buildings have their charms and are right on old campus where the graduation occurs. They will send out the offer to house family and friends on campus a few months ahead. You can write to me with other graduation related questions at npolk@aol.com.

We are hoping to return to New Zealand this winter. It%26#39;s our favorite country.

Our May is like NZ fall, sometimes a bit rainy as it was this past graduation with nice spring flowers and bright green grass. Bring umbrellas and rainwear. Or May could be hot. Or it could be cold. Bring a little of everything. Nancy

Are you renting a car or planning to use public transportation? Just let me know how i can help. Nancy

Mary, if you will have a car, you might want to look at the Hampton Inn in Milford - it is about a 20 minute drive, but it is a nice, clean hotel with comfy beds, right off the highway - They have a NY Hopper rate that is around $69 per night, and offer free continental breakfast.
