My husband and I are considering a weekend getaway before the year is over. We live in northeastern NJ and are trying to decide where to go. I was thinking CT might be a good choice. Any suggestions on where to go or what to do? We%26#39;re not big gamblers, so I don%26#39;t know if the casinos would be worthwhile for us. Thanks for your help!
Fall/Winter Weekend Getaway
What do you like to do ? Essex is a quaint town with some interesting shops, a small museum, and the Griswold Inn- Tavern filled with nautical items, good food and entertainment it the Tap room. Its nearby the OUtlet stores in Clinton and Westbrook. There are many antique shops in the area. Its a short ride to the casinos. Even if you don%26#39;t gamble I suggest a visit to the Native American Museum which is near Foxwoods and the shops, restaurants, and entertainment at Mohegan Sun are worth a visit.

Essex is a good call. There are lots of things to do in the central / SE Ct area. I would suggest a trip up 95 take Route 9 north just before the CT River and follow to Essex.
Downtown Essex is a quaint colonial village with shops and eateries. The Gris or Griswold Inn is a 1776 Tavern with a lively taproom (Pub) and decent food. They now have a wine bar and tappas room as well. Sandwiches at Olive Oyls down the street is also a good idea.
There is a new spa in Essex as well called the Essex Spa I believe that may be worth checking out.
The Streets of Essex are straight and easily walkable. Decorated for Xmas is also a nice time of the year.
Humm... I would also suggest a trip to Saybrook (Old Saybrook) off 95 on the CT River. Lots of shops and cafes... Saybrook Point Inn %26amp; Spa has some interesting offers (romantic couple packages with massage etc...) great views of the River and good food.
New London is also nice and has some decent B%26amp;Bs and Inns.
I have some info on my travel blog at www.thenewenglandcoast.com, post a comment and I can recommend some ideas for you.
Thx and good luck!
