Bed Bugs!! Howard Johnson Express, Groton, CT

My family stayed at the Howard Johnson Express in Croton, CT, in August 2006. We had two rooms and paid $135 each. The lobby carpet was badly stained and dirty and the couch in the lobby was filthy. There was a sickening smell of smoke masked with air freshener. It was late and we had no other choice. The rooms seemed clean. In the morning, I found bed bugs in the bed I had shared with my granddaughter. I contacted the corporate office and was told to deal with the franchise owner. They did not stand by their president%26#39;s stated desire to provide a quality stay. The manager of the hotel gave me $25 off and an invitation to stay again. If, at that time, I was unhappy he would refund my money for the stay. What do you think the chances of a retrurn visit are? After my experience with Howard Johnsons%26#39;s corporate office I will never stay at another one of their hotels.

This seems to be a problem with other franchised motels as well . You think you have a neame corporation backing up your stay only to find they tell you it%26#39;s the franchise owner%26#39;s responsibility .

I had the Day%26#39;s Inn tell me the same thing .

And I have noticed vastly different quality under the same corporate names .

I had a very similar expereince with the corporate / franchise relationship with Best Western. I was told it was privately owned so they wouldnt do anything but ask me if I%26#39;ll ever stay in a Best Western again - no way! I dont care who owns it.

You would think that the corporate would take a little ownership in situations like this its really frustrating.
