i live about 90 minutes from both casinos and lately neither one is paying on the slots the good thing at MS you get better and faster comp%26#39;s than at foxwoods and now the new thing at foxwoods is to give you free slot play instead of wampum points with your monthly letter. this way you will use all you existing points and then will have to pay cash for things like rooms and the buffet. i think because they installed a lot of new machine with smaller payoffs people are mad and staying away. i see now that on tuesdays you can get 2 for 1 buffets and on weekends they have added crab legs and other stuff to the buffet. i als ohave been going there since it opened and for the 1st time ever got a offer for fre tickets (bill cosby and/or regis philbin) on a SAt night foxwoods never gave anything away on a sat night i am moving to the mohigan ASAP
foxwoods and mohegin sunWe are also about 90 min. from the 2 casinos and noticed years ago after going to Vegas a few times the difference on the machines. We haven%26#39;t gone east out that way in a few years now because they never gave us anything for our losses. Now we go WEST young man- and south to Atlantic City. It is night and day, let me tell you. Night and day. And we get a free room- I mean totally free- for the whole weekend whenever we want. And we are not high rollers by any means. My wife is a penny slot machine player and I play mostly quater Video Poker or nickel slots. NOOOOWWWWW we have the possibility of Harrahs coming to RI. We will know how the vote went in about 4 hours (8 pm tonight Nov.7). I would drive right past Foxwoods and Mohegan to go there. And you know Foxwoods would lose 50% of their buisness to Mass. and RI players. They will still keep their 25% from NY and 25% from Ct., or maybe not when people start seeing the treatment they get from Harrahs.
foxwoods and mohegin sunHi. I%26#39;m replying partly because of Dopplerbob, as I live in Branford. Although MS is 45 mins. from my house, I prefer to drive to Atlantic City, there%26#39;s no comparison in comps. I don%26#39;t mind the drive, as I don%26#39;t pay for the hotel room in the casino, and my meals are mostly free. They give you so much stuff in AC. Also, I really believe the payouts are better.
As an example, next weekend I%26#39;ll be driving down for one night, because I have $100 coming from the Hilton (haven%26#39;t played there in a while, and it%26#39;s a %26#39;welcome back%26#39; giveaway), and I%26#39;m getting a frozen turkey from Bally%26#39;s. My room will be comped, and so will my food.
I would have no problem staying at Harrah%26#39;s in RI.
Yes ';jean8'; I am glad we are not the only one that enjoy A/C. We just got back from 4 nights at Caesars and had a ball. A real vacation. And they picked up all our food and we saw a great show (Rachel Ray up and Personal) for free and the room was all comp, and we spend less gambling there than we ever did at Foxwoods because we never won anything there and we ran out of money real quick. Too bad Harrah%26#39;s got voted out in RI but maybe in the future.
Bob
Hi, Bob. I read your trip report, and am glad you had a wonderful time. I%26#39;m looking forward to running down this coming weekend, will be staying at the Trop for one night.
Why on earth would anyone want a frozen turkey as a comp? That%26#39;s ridiculous.
Look, folks, the simple fact is that you always gamble more money than you get back in comps - that%26#39;s how casinos make money. If you go chasing comps, you%26#39;re playing a losing game. (Actually, you%26#39;re playing a losing game just playing slot machines in the first place, but that%26#39;s a whole %26#39;nother topic.)
The reason Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun don%26#39;t give as generous comps as AC is because they don%26#39;t have to. Nobody wants to go to AC - the place is dying and the casinos are losing money, so they are desperate for business. The Connecticut casinos, on the other hand, fill up every week and are making money hand over fist.
If it is worth it to you to drive three to five hours to AC, that%26#39;s great. Many people prefer the Connecticut casinos because you can drive down there in an hour or so, play for a while, then drive home and sleep in your own bed for free. I do agree that the hotel rates at Foxwoods and especially Mohegan are ridiculous.
