Hey there,
I%26#39;m on a training course for a couple of weeks in Hartford during November. Having only ever been to NY i haven%26#39;t a clue what to expect. is there anything to go and see or do at the weekend (11th and 12th Nov) in the City? Or is there anywhere relatively close by that is easy to drive to as i do have a car for the weekend?
Thanks, Adam
What to do in HartfordHey Adam..WELCOME to Hartford. FIRST of all...let me advise you that there are many people who are making a point to bash Hartford! So I strongly suggest you ignore this and come to Hartford with an open mind! And I%26#39;m quite sure that you are going to ENJOY your visit HERE! I suggest you go to www.hartford.com for information of things to do.
What to do in HartfordWhat kind of activities do you like ?
If you want to see an American football, the University of Connecut is playing a game in their stadium in East Hartford- 10 minutes from downtown. You might enjoy a short hike up Talcott Mountain in Simsbury to see the tower there. Check out the restaurants and bars in downtown Hartford or West Hartford center. For shopping try Westfarms Mall.
I suggest a visit to Foxwoods casino, the world%26#39;s largest casino about a one hour drive from Hartford. If you go please visit the Native American Museum nearby. They have some interesting films and I think it is a great museum.
If your intrested in a show check out the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Hartford, the Hartford Stage in downtown Hartford and TheaterWorks in downtown Hartford.
For art buffs the Wadsworth Athenuem, the USA%26#39;s oldest public art museum in the country is in downtown Hartford
And for history buffs the Old State House (one of the USA%26#39;s oldest state houses) is in downtown Hartford, the CT State Capital %26amp; Legislative Office Compelex are in downtown Hartford, the Mark Twain House %26amp; Museum and the Harriet Beecher Stowe Center are in city%26#39;s Asylum Hill neighborhood, just west of downtown.
For more history...travel on down to Old Wethersfield in Wethersfield, CT...the town directly south of Hartford. Old Wethersfield has tons of restored historic buildings and homes that are now museums, shops, restaurants, cafes, etc...the Wethersfield Cove is also in Old Wetersfield
You can go to Boston, less than 2 hours or Newport, RI, close to 2 hours as well Closer by, if it%26#39;s nice hiking to Hublein Tower in Talcott Mountain State Park is nice (On the Bloomfield/Simsbury line, about 15 - 20 minutes by car). For interesting movies, Real Art Ways is a good place. The Mark Twain House is OK, the Atheneum has some good art.
Are you staying downtown, there are some decent restaurants and bars. And some not so decent restaurants and bars. I haven%26#39;t lived in Hartford for a couple of years, so I%26#39;ll let a present resident comment on that
