Moving to the Hartford area

My husband may be getting a promotion and relocation to Hartford. We currently live in northern Virginia. We have two kids, 6 and 4, and are looking for a suburban area with good schools, nice homes, etc. His office will be in downtown Hartford. Any suggestions on where to live without going broke?! Thanks!

Try Glastonbury, West Hartford, Rocky Hill or Newington. Glastonbury is a great town but you have to get acroos a bridge to get downtown. In West Hartford you get get downtown on city streets if the highway is crowded. Its got great schools with renowned music programs and a vibrant town center. Its an older community so the lots are not that large.

Rocky Hill is a nice town about 15 minutes from Hartford. It has many childrens programs (sports, clubs, ect.) and a very good school system. I am a senior at Rocky Hill High School currently and have been in this school system since kindergarten. We have three elementary schools, a middle and a high school. One of the Elementary Schools is just K-2 and this is and excellent option if you live in the right area because it is nice and small. We have many parks that include playgrounds, sports fields/courts, pool, ampitheater, ice skating, good sledding hills, ect.. It is pretty much a middle class town but does have a ';rich'; side (although nothing compared to Glastonbury and West Hartford). The homes are very nice and you shouldn%26#39;t have to much trouble finding one. You may also want to consider Newington, Cromwell or Wethersfield (especially old wethersfield). I%26#39;m not sure how the school systems are but they are nice middle class towns. Good Luck!

All the towns posted in the previous three posts are nice residential towns bordering Hartford. Might I suggest looking in the Farmington Valley area. Your commute time may add an extra 15-20 min. to Hartford, but many of these towns have more of a rural feel, but still have the conveniences of all the services and shopping you will need. Depending on your price range, you can still find a moderatly sized 3 bedroom home in the $200,000 to $300,000 range. This website may help www.farmingtonvalleyvisit.com

I would suggest West Hartford....But it can be very expensive to get a home there but the schools are top class. In Hartford if you decide...I would suggest go go to the Farmington Avenue area, they have nice homes for reasonable prices. I would also suggest...Newington, CT. It%26#39;s only 10 minutes away from Hartford.

I was born in Newington, lived there until the age of 8 when my parents divorced. Our family just moved back here, about 2 1/2 months ago. Wanted a nice community with a great school system.

Naomi...YES..I call P-Town my SECOND home! I get excited talking about P-Town and try to suggests things for people to have a GREAT time there as I ALWAYS do...Also trying to help people who are planning a visit or moving to OUR Rising Star*! CT is a great place to be and live!

Couldn%26#39;t agree with you more. CT is a great state with so much to offer. I was born %26amp; raised here. IF we ever end up leaving CT, it%26#39;ll be to move to the Cape ;-)

I agree too. CT is a great place. I visit CT almost every weekend... I have been to Mystic area and now Hartford area this weekend ...

And I like the people in CT, e.g. last time I stayed at Homewood Suites at Wallingford, and the complimentary breakfast was so nice and the lady was so helpful that I gave her $20 tip.
