hotel for Sept 2006, East Lyme/Niantic, CT

Seeking advice for hotel near family wedding at dawn on beach in Niantic. We%26#39;re not looking for lots of amenities, but do want a good bed and quiet to sleep. We%26#39;ll have ots of driving that weekend, and we have to be up %26#39;way early! My adult son and I would love some informed advice.

Closest appears to be Elms Hotel; it%26#39;s not much listed with www travel services, seems an old place -- many rooms have shared baths. It%26#39;s right across from shoreline, but a train track runs not too far to the north. Can anyone vouch for it? For a Sat night stay?

Locals in party recommend chain hotels out on I-95, eg, Days Inn, Sleep Inn--surely OK, but lowest-common-denominator places. Google, Yahoo, etc list dozens of places, but it%26#39;s hard to get a read on any but the chains.

Other suggestions welcome!

Hei Danish Dynamite! Prater du dansk?

I hail from Niantic and the Elms is a bit well lets call it dated. The inn at Harbor Hill has some nice rooms and great service as does 14 Lincoln Street both in Niantic. The Niantic Inn may be available and is in the downtown as well.

Otherwise places on 95/Flanders are what is available unless you head to Old Lyme.

Depending how far is far to you and what your price range is, try the Water%26#39;s Edge Resort in Westbrook. It%26#39;s beautiful. Depending when you are going, you might luck into a weekend package. It is about 15 miles down 95 from Niantic.

Thanks to respondents. We%26#39;re giving up on Elms. Nae, jeg taler ikke dansk ... but I know a lot more places to stay in DK than in CT! ;-)
