planning a visit

we%26#39;re visiting the hartford and new haven areas at the end of the month to think about relocating.. My question is what hotels do you suggest to get a good feel of these two areas.. thanks!

planning a visit

Since Connecticut is like one BIG suburb, going down I-91 you never get the feel for anything rural,

...usually 5miles to 10 miles outside these city limits will give you a good feel for the NUTMEG state...

drive south down I-91 thru Hartford and get off EXIT 24 in Weathersfield state rt 99 ....stay at Best Western Camelot Inn

or Howard Johnson Expess...

For your New Haven visit I suggest exit 12 (North Haven) a few miles north of New Haven ... Holiday Inn will be facing the exit.

If you prefer a shoreline visit please read my post in the ';Newport to New Haven'; thread ...

If you do stay in Wethersfield, ask the hotel how to get to the ferry in Rocky Hill. Take your car over to South Glastonbury on the Ferry (just a few $s each way)

Drive up main street in Glastonbury - get a map - will be a left after you come off the Ferry roads, bear left when it hits route 17 to stay on Main street.. this will give you a great feel for New England and CT. You can then take the Putnam Bridge back to Wethersfield.

You could stay at the Residence Inn Marriott in Rocky Hill just south of Hartford. It is very convenient to all the major highways.

I saw the Hilton Gardens in glastonbury at $109 per night. Its a much newer Hotel than those in Wethersfield and a great suburb. I think both the Hartford and New Haven areas are great places to live but I would strongly suggest that you try to live on the same side of the cities that you will work in. It makes the commute much easier. West Hartford, Farmington, Simsbury,Granby,SouthWindsor, and Glastonbury in the Hartford area.
