what's your favorite Connecticut town/city??

Driving daughter on a college tour from Harvard/Boston to Brown/Providence RI then Princeton/NJ then back Boston%26#39;s Logan Airport. We%26#39;d like to stop somewhere between Princeton and Boston to cut up the drive. I was thinking maybe Connecticut would be a good place to stop since it%26#39;s on the way back to Boston...idk

What is your favorite Connecticut town/city? and why?

Please help us pick a place to stop probably for early dinner and an evening look/night sleep before heading to the airport next morning.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Well, I%26#39;m biased because I live here but I think Stonington is a wonderful town. The borough is a charming village, the town overall is quite rural and there%26#39;s Mystic Seaport and the Aquarium. Lots of good restaurants, nice shops and plenty of historic homes. Also, consider flying into Providence rather than Logan if that%26#39;s possible for you. You%26#39;ll find it a much faster and easier airport to get in and out of. PVD is a 40 minute drive from Stonington (which is on the CT/RI border); Logan is close to 2 hours. Have fun!

If you%26#39;re pretty much going for dinner - go to Stamford. You can stay right downtown, walk to dinner, a little shopping. (great food too btw)

If you%26#39;re cutting through the middle of CT, West Hartford is pretty cool, or Manchester if you%26#39;re just looking for a lot of major chain dining options.

YOu could always sched a stop in Middletown too (Wesleyan is there - nice campus, good food around too).

Thank you. Just the kind of replies that I was looking for :) i%26#39;ll look into flying into providence next time, great idea! since i had to make a decision yesterday and hadnt heard from anyone, I decided to stop at newport, RI for the evening instead of CT. We%26#39;re staying at the viking hotel. Any restaurant/must do suggestions? We may stop by CT briefly since we%26#39;re passing by and I%26#39;d love to take a quick look too. Thank you again!!

Newport%26#39;s LOVELY.There are plenty of dining options in the Bannister%26#39;s Wharf/Bowen%26#39;s Wharf/Brick Alley Shops area. Talk to the staff at the Viking - I%26#39;m sure they%26#39;d be able to advise you.

I was in Newport at Christmas. We had lunch at the Castle Hill Inn (dining room overlooks the ocean)and the food was delicious. The White Horse Tavern was also recommended but it was closed the nights we were there. We also had dinner at the Brick Alley Pub - casual dining but the food was good.

Try to stop at one of the mansions if you have the time (The Marble House or The Breakers, for example)-they are a sight to behold.I%26#39;d also take the time to drive along Bellevue Avenue and Ocean Drive before I head back.

ENJOY!

There are a ton of lovely restaurants on bowens wharf. We go just about every year and as a matter of fact I am going this weekend. We like going to the Black Pearl, they have good food and not that expensive. There are a few other places as well but I cannot remember names for the life of me. When I get back this weekend I%26#39;ll be sure to post some other nice restaurants.

How did the college trip go? We are headed ';up north';for the same thing this weekend for a week of Yale to Harvard and sightseeing around Boston. Now that you%26#39;ve been any suggestions? The schools, places to stay, the drive?
