My husband is in Stamford for business, and I am going to visit him in a few weeks.. one day we will spend together, the other day I will be on my own. I know absolutely nothing about Connecticut, so I was wondering what might be fun to do in the area? Maybe a nice beach or boardwalk, a cute town to wander around in, or a nice seafood restaurant? Is the Yale campus worth a trip? We will be staying in Stamford both nights and may or may not have access to a car. Thanks for your help!!

Personally, I think you would do better taking a train to NYC than to go to the Yale Campus - especially if you don%26#39;t have a car - it would be about the same distance trainride to Grand Central as it would be to New Haven.
For beaches, Stamford has several - Cove Island is a beautiful park with a jogging path - cityofstamford.org/content/鈥efault.aspx
There is a mall in downtown Stamford and several shops - Downtown Greenwich or South Norwalk (next towns) have some great little stores and restaurants.
For restaurants in Stamford, I would highly recommend Bennett%26#39;s steak and fish -http://www.bennettssteakandfish.com
Downtown Stamford has a lot to offer - if you will be there on a Thurs, they have live at 5 - Live music and food vendors. You can find a ton of info here.

Great- thank you so much! I like your ideas. Actually, I will be in Stamford with my husband at the end of his workweek, and then we are going to NYC on the weekend. :) I was just hoping to see some of New England outside of the big city for a couple days.
Without a car, there aren%26#39;t too many options.
My best suggestion:
You can take the train from Stamford to nearby South Norwalk. Take a one minute cab ride to the SONO area and visit the Maritime Aquarium and IMAX Theatre ( www.maritimeaquarium.org ) on the banks of the inner Norwalk Harbor. You could also take a harbor cruise from here and visit the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse and nature trail (www.seaport.org/sheffield_island.htm ) Many small shops and restaurants in this area. Sit on the waterside deck at SONO Seafood Restaurant and enjoy locally harvested clams or a lobster.
For upscale shopping and dining, take the train or a cab to Greenwich and wander around Greenwich Avenue or take train to New Canaan and stroll around downtown.
Enjoy your visit Birdie.
I agree with above suggestions, except you do not need to take a cab from the South Norwalk train station to the Sono district. It is definitely walking distance!
