my husband and I wiill be traveling to Mystinc in august with our two year old. Any recomendations on where to eat. We love seafood, and need a (very) casual setting/kid friendly. We don%26#39;t mind a drive to another town if need be. I think I heard of a place or two in Noak?????

Abbott%26#39;s in Noank is great. It%26#39;s a lobster place outdoors on picnic tables. 2 y.o. will like to watch the boats go by. It%26#39;s byob. If you want something indoor S%26amp;P Oyster in downtown mystic is good. They have a children%26#39;s menu and crayons. It%26#39;s beside the bridge, so again can watch boats and bridge.
Remember there is the HUGE art festival Aug 11-12 and the whole town is packed. It%26#39;s a great festival, but don%26#39;t want you to be surprised.

Much better than Abbott%26#39;s and just a few steps away is Costello%26#39;s (get it?). Abbotts is the definition of the tourist trap; $25 for a boiled lobster! Try Costellos Fish%26amp;Chips or popcorn shrimp or the clam bellies. We keep our boat docked at the boat yard there and may be a bit biased, but it is definitely an overlooked place. Check out the deck at sunset on a weekday. You will have an uncrowded, spectacular view and a wonderful atmosphere. Also, can bring your own beer/wine which can help with the cost of an evening out. In town in Mystic, Margaritas mexican resturant is really kid friendly as well as Anthony J%26#39;s and of course Mystic Pizzza.
Abbott%26#39;s and Costello%26#39;s are perfect for your family. We recently spent a little over a week in the area and ate at one or the other every day. Of the two, Abbott%26#39;s was our favorite. They offer a broader menu, but they do not serve fried clams (they have steamers and mussels). We enjoyed Costello%26#39;s fried clams, but actually found that The Dock (on the Niantic) has the superior whole belly clam.
The restaurants are adjacent so you can choose a table at Abbott%26#39;s (they have the better seating area and a place to tie up if you arrive by boat) and then have someone run to Costello%26#39;s to grab food for anyone who wants fried clams. Oh, also Costello%26#39;s has great thin crispy fries!
The atmosphere is extremely casual (outdoor picnic tables with one tented area) but very lovely. The tables overlook the harbor and you%26#39;ll see some beautiful boats sail by. One tip: bring a tablecloth and silverware if possible. Unless you don%26#39;t care about that: I just don%26#39;t like eating with plastic utensils. About half of the customers arrive with a picnic hamper that includes wine, a tablecloth, glasses, utensils and even candles. Once we got hip to this it really enhanced the dining experience.
You%26#39;ll enjoy a great value (lobster dinners for around $25!) and have a relaxing time because you child will be comfortable.
Oh - also be sure to try their cleam clam chowder; it is outstanding!
