What highlights have you experienced in Mystic and surrounding area? Any worthwhile boat trips? Beaches?

We recently spent the afternoon in Mystic and quite enjoyed ourselves. We had lunch at Mystic Pizza which was a must do after having seen the movie. I thought the pizza was great although some of the locals told me that if you%26#39;re strictly looking for the best pizza there are even better places. For us, it was all about being at the infamous ';Mystic Pizza'; so it was still great.

We also walked around and checked out the shops and had ice cream at the little ice cream shop on the draw bridge.

We didn%26#39;t do any boat trips, but did see that you could take a day sailing cruise. If we had had more time we would have loved to have tried it.

There is also the Mystic Aquarium which is a nice spot with very interesting old boats and houses.

We didn%26#39;t see any beaches right in Mystic (although we weren%26#39;t looking!) but did try the beaches in the area and there are some really nice ones. There is lots to do along the coast in the Mystic area, besides the beaches. We just loved the Book Barn in Niantic. The name is a little misleading though. There are a series of buildings filled with used books all joined by gardens. It was very cool. Each of the little buildings had a different theme for the books and there are cats strolling around everywhere.

There were some great restaurants along the coast as well. We had an amazing fish dinner at a little place overlooking a marina close to Niantic but I can%26#39;t recall the name.

Mystic, Ct

No beaches right in Mystic; it%26#39;s on the river, not the ocean. We have great beaches right over the state border in RI -- Watch Hill, Misquamicut -- a short ride.

To add to the previous post, go to Mystic Seaport for some history and across the way to Olde Mystic Village for shopping.

If you come over to Westerly, we%26#39;ve got a pretty downtown area for shopping and dining, and Watch Hill is fun for the carousel, more shopping and dining. On the weekends, you can take a ride in our duck boat for a land/water tour of the area. Check out the Westerly/Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce website.

Oops, I just realized I said Mystic ';Aquarium'; when I meant Mystic ';Seaport';. We didn%26#39;t get a chance to check out the Aquarium.

What the other person said about Mystic Pizza is true. The best place to go is Avanti%26#39;s Pizza and More, they have great pizza and their dinners and sandwiches/grinders are excellent. The ingredients are always fresh too! Going shopping in the Mystic Village is a must, and yes visiting the Seaport is good too, but only in the summer. If you go in the winter many of the sites are closed at the Seaport. The Aquarium is a nice place to go if you have kids.
