driving to NYC

We will be spending 5 days in Stamford in mid June. What is the morning commute like into NYC? Any suggestions for parking in New York? Would we be better off taking the train? Thanks in advance for your advice

There is no question that the train is the way to go. Stamford is a major station stop on the Metro North RR and has a variety of trains (express and local) all day and into the night. The traffic from Stamford to NY can be incredibly bad and unpredictable, especially in the summer as people travel that corridor to get to the Cape for summer vacations.

I%26#39;m not sure what parking at the station is like during the week but there is a large parking garage there. There are also buses that serve the train station during the peak period rush hours.

You will be riding the New Haven Line.

The morning traffic during the week is horrendous. Don%26#39;t even think about driving in especially if you%26#39;re not familiar with driving in NYC. Also parking is very expensive and difficult to find in some areas during the week. Even on weekends I%26#39;d advise that you take the train. I%26#39;d also suggest a taxi to/from the Stamford train station weekdays for at least the first day as I%26#39;m not sure if there is sufficient parking to meet demand.

Seats aren%26#39;t always available for everyone on all trains to NYC during the peak weekday morning commute from Stamford but standing on the short ride in is still much better than driving.

Note that new timetables go into effect for the New Haven Line on June 11.

Welcome to CT and the City.

Yes, take the train!! not only traffic, but confusing for someone unfamiliar with the area (and even those of us familiar with the area).

Much better on the train - Take it to Grand Central, and you will be central to just about everything you want. Not only is the traffic horrendous, the NY driving can be complicated, especially if not familiar, and you will pay $25 and up to park the car in NYC.
