Break between New York city and Boston?

We will be in the states on a 10-day trip in june. We start in New York and stay there for 5 days and finish with 3 days in Boston - but where should we stay for a couple of days between these cities?

It should be a couple og relaxing and luxurious days.

Any good suggestions as to where to stay and what to see?

Ideas can be mailed to us at engedal(at)post.tele.dk

Kind regards TorbenFromDenmark.

May we assume you will have the use of an automobile? If so, stop in Mystic Ct., see the aquarium, travel north and gamble/stay over at the Mohegan Sun if that is your thing. Take the Essex steam train ( try the dinner train)and visit Gillette Castle.Just a few suggestions . Sure you will receive some more. Enjoy your trip.--BEEBEE

Newport, Rhode Island. Stay in a nice hotel on the oceanfront. Tour the huge mansions, eat in fabulous restaurants, do some shopping in nice boutiques.

Or you could go to one or both of the huge casinos in Connecticut. Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods. Both offer great hotels, fantastic spas, gambling, top shelf restuarants, shopping, concerts, etc.

New Haven should be a definite stop on your way north. If you

don%26#39;t have a car, you can catch a bus from Penn Station to

New Haven. I have never done this so I can not tell you what it%26#39;s

like. I prefer the train. The most expensive option is Amtrak which

leaves from Penn Station in New York or you can do what the

locals do and take Metro North (commuter rail) from

Grand Central. They both go to Union Station in New Haven and

one doesn%26#39;t get you there faster than the other. I perfer Metro

North. It%26#39;s an easy walk from the train station to downtown

New Haven and Yale University, which a beautiful campus.

There are some cute shops on Chapel Street. Apizza is a serious

thing here. It%26#39;s a coal oven pizza and the people here

are divided on who makes the best Sally%26#39;s or Pepe%26#39;s.

Both places have been around for years and are located on

Wooster street. I vote for Pepe%26#39;s , but decide for yourself.

Parking in New Haven can be tricky.

As you are heading North on 95 a great place to stop for a bite

to eat is: Lenny and Joe%26#39;s in Madison, CT. It%26#39;s a very low key

fish restaurant with steamed lobsters, crab legs, whole fried

clams etc..

Your next stop would be Mystic, Mystic Seaport Museum and Mystic Aquarium. All great options. I love schooners and if you do too

Mystic Seaport Museum is a must. It%26#39;s an all day event to do it

right.

Newport Rhode Island would and be your next stop. It%26#39;s luxurious

with it mansions, beautiful vistas, and if you are into tennis I think

the tennis hall of fame is there. If you skipped Mystic you definitely will see lot of wood ships here. Visit the bar at the Viking Hotel.

They have a great wine list and comfortable leather couches

to lounge on. There%26#39;s an excellent Italian restaurant on

Memorial Blvd. called Puerini%26#39;s. Geat food and great service.

Newport is expensive but well worth the money. It can be hard

to get hotel reservations so book early.

Hope this is helpful and have fun!

I think the previous poster is suggesting a bit much for 3 days, although the suggestions are all good ones.

I%26#39;d rank Newport RI as the #1 spot.. you could easily spend 2-3 days here relaxing with plenty to do. Do the cliffwalk, shop, hit the beach, maybe visit a mansion.

Mystic is also nice.

I wouldn%26#39;t bother with New haven..
