my boyfriend and I are in our late twenties and live in northern new england. We want to move somewhere with more culture, things to do and job opportunities, healthcare for myself and graphic design/illustration for my boyfriend. We%26#39;re looking to rent and dont mind being outside of a bigger city as long as there are things to do. Being closer to nyc would be a definite plus.. Thanks~!
considering relocationStamford is a great town with alot to do. There are two theaters that get nationally recognized names for all types of arts (music, dance, theater, comedy, etc.), and a lively restaurant scene. It is a 45 minute or so train ride into NYC.
The town has beaches as well, although it is on the Sound, so we%26#39;re not talking ocean here.
I would imagine that for your fields, there would be alot of job possibilities in the Stamford / Norwalk area.
You could rent in a neighboring community as well, if you want a smaller town. But, be advised that southwestern CT is very expensive to live; I have no idea what type of budget you have (and I don%26#39;t know anything about the rental market anyway).
You might actually look into Ridgefield, Ct. Again, don%26#39;t know how much of a rental market there is, but it is more rural (if you want that) and it has a Playhouse that also attracts top performers. (not as major as Stamford, but really great quality people). A little farther from NYC, but not bad. The drive to Stamford would be about half hour, maybe a little more.
Westport offers alot as well.
considering relocationNew Haven area, cheaper than Stamford, a lot of cultural stuff (Yale helps). Direct rail connection to New York on Metro North
Stamford is a great town - but you have to factor the cost of living. A one Bedroom apartment will run you at least $1100 a month, if not more - You might want to look at Norwalk - the Sono area is very artsy and fun, lots to do -
Pretty much anywhere on the Metro North line will give you easy access to NY
I would look at Norwalk, and perhaps Milford, which is also on the water and metro north line but should be cheaper ansd they have everything there...
