Any tips on where to stay? Is there ';visiting'; family housing on base?

Navy housing (hotels/motels) for visiting families is widespread in other areas...just wondering.

When we were stationed there about 8 years ago, there was a Navy Lodge. If you are looking at it for when family visits, you may also want to consider using priceline to get local hotels at better rates. The NL is fine, but not exactly a nicer hotel.

Pamper yourselves. The Marriott Mystic (actually in Groton) is nice. The casinos are close by, and they offer very nice rooms (Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods).Also in downtown New London there is the Radisson, which is probably very reasonable.

Check out the Mystic area (which, yes, is part of Groton). There are many hotels and motels in the area, from the higher end Marriot and Hilton, to suite-type accommodations (Amerisuites), to HoJo%26#39;s and more budget class. There are also a number of budget motels in New London, right across the river from Groton.

The navy lodge is probably your best bet for price and closeness to the base. it is newly remodled and all rooms have kitchinettes. your son has to make the reservation and be there when you check in so they can see his ID. but its only $75/n and are very nice.

The Hampton Inn in Groton....les than 3 miles from subbase, clean, comfortable with good restaurants nearby

When we came to see our son, we stayed at the Sojourner Inn and really enjoyed our visit, employees were very nice and helpful. It has changed hands now but they probably still have many of the same staff. Weekly rate (I just priced) is $525 plus 12% tax.
