My hubby and I are from Arizona but will be in the West Hartford area for a soccer game at Rentschler Field. We are thinking about driving to West Harford after the game to spend the night before returning to NY. Does anyone have any information on which area is safest: East Hartford/West Harford? What about hotels--do you have a favorite?
Need help on finding a hotel in West Hartford!
Which area is safest? East Hartford had a bad reputation once, but it%26#39;s being revitalized now, so both are actually quite nice places to visit-- but if you are looking for easy access to hotels from the highway heading back towards NY, you might consider booking a hotel in Farmington, which is the town next to West Hartford.
Hilton Gardens is a nice and affordable accommodation just off I-84 and most of the rooms are available with kitchenette and internet service

Theres a Hilton in Farmington but not a Hilton Gardens. Theres one of those in Glastonbury. I might suggest the new Courtyard by Marriott. Its in Farmington, almost on the West Hartford line and almost across the street from the upscale Westfarms Mall.
Theres a Hilton Garden Inn and a Homewood Suites by Hilton (right next to each other) at Somerset Square in Glastonbury which is right off Route 2 and Route 3 and near I-84 %26amp; I-91. Glastonbury is one of the regions upscale suburbs and right across the street from the hotels are the Shops at Somerset Square home to about 25 or so upscale shops and restaurants. Around the corner is downtown Glastonbury which features a bit of a New England feel with some more shops and restaurants.
In East Hartford there is the Sheraton Hartford Hotel on East River Drive right off of the highway. Located is in an office park somewhat but features views of the Connecticut River and downtown Hartford and is close to Great River Park and about 10 minutes from Rentschler Field.
Quite honestly if it was me I would stay in downtown Hartford. Home to some of the areas top restaurants as well as numerous museums and theaters from the Wadsworth Atheneum to the Old State House to the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts. Dont believe everything you read, Hartford is changing and changing for the better and downtown has always been a center of activity. Downtown there is a new 22 story 409 room Marriott Hotel right on the Connecticut River next to the new CT Convention Center. Theres also a newly renovated Hilton Hotel with 392 rooms on 18 floors that right next to the civic center. A block away is the historic Goodwin Hotel with 124 rooms on 8 floors. Across from Bushnell Park and next to Union Place is a Holiday Inn Express with 96 rooms on 8 floors. There is also a Crowne Plaza Hotel with 354 rooms on 18 floors. Downtown has easy access to both I-84 and I-91 and within minutes you can be at Rentschler Field or in West Hartford Center!
