moving to stamford

Hi,

My partner works for a big accountancy firm and we are moving to Stamford for 6 months. We currently live in the North of England. Silly question but do you think we%26#39;ll like it?? Whats good/bad about Stamford as a place to live?

Hi Andy!

I currently work in Stamford - was born here, lived here for several years, etc... There are alot of British expats in the area. My former neighbor is from Scotland, and I met a huge community of them - they do have several soccer leagues here -

It%26#39;s hard to predict whether you will like it or not -

Cons: Cost of living is HIGH here; a few bad neighborhoods, traffic, traffic, traffic!

Pros: Close to Manhattan (easy train ride); you can live downtown for the city feel or on the outskirts for a more country feel; lots of arts and entertainment events; great restaurants and bars (you will find the expats at Tiernans or Tigens Pubs); the beach,....

Any questions, feel free to ask!

I live in Stamford as well.. I echo the exceedingly high cost of living as a con.

Stamford is a very diverse place. You have everything from the downtown area of a small city in the center of town to enormous mansions and a rural feel in North Stamford, to the beaches and more relaxed feeling areas of Shippan and the Cove. There are nice areas and not so nice areas. You can drive through pockets of both in a very short distance in some areas.

There are great restuarants, fun bars, theaters, movies, a mall etc.

The towns on either side, Greenwich and Darien are both very wealthy. There is great shopping on Greenwich Ave.

Personally, I%26#39;m a fan of Shippan - you%26#39;re walking distance to the beach, it%26#39;s a beautiful neighborhood, but only a 5 min drive to downtown.

If you prefer to be near the action, there are plenty of apartments and condos downtown, walking distance to the train (44 min express to New York City), restaurants, etc. Springdale and Glenbrook are also cute areas.

Good luck w/the move!

PS. Hard to say if you%26#39;ll like it, but I do!!
