We are traveling this train for the first time this summer. Is there anyone who can offer advice on this trip or describe to us the scenery we will see, and the type of terrain we will cover? We would appreciate any advice as we are first time train travelers! Thanks
amtrak regional train from New Haven to Washinton DCI have taken this train many times. Unfortuantely the trip you are taking is through mostly industrial portions of the area so there arent too many sites to see. The trip in NJ gets nice in spots. You can get a good view of the city when you are making the turn into NYC.
As for advice, I would say, bring snacks and a good book. I enjoy amtrak very much but dont ever rely on the service car for food or drinks.
Also, if you havent purchased your tickets yet, you can get a discount on line with your AAA membership. There are other discounts available too.
Have a good trip.
amtrak regional train from New Haven to Washinton DCThanks so much for the information! We appreciate it!
If you are planning to stop in New York City on the way, you might want to consider the metro north instead of Amtrak. AT $14 off-peak hours, the rate is less than the cabride to the train station. (you may have a package Amtrak deal) The metro north comes into Grand Central however, not into Penn station, so you would need to cross town if you are continuing right on to DC.
The scenery may not be good, but the travelers are often interesting.
I am trying to find out how far in advance you should purchase train tickets for New Haven to Washington DC. Does anyone know if there will be tickets available at the station or should we determine a travel time and buy in advance. Is there a danger of them filling up the train and not having seats available?
If you are using any discount code(at least AAA for sure, that%26#39;s the one I know) you need to book at least three days in advance. You are usually fine getting them that day, but it%26#39;s probably easiest to get them beforehand.
