Help finding good vacation beach?

Hi TA members,

We have just a few precious vacation days to spend this summer, June 10-14, and so I%26#39;m really trying to make it great. We have two young children, 3 and 5, and are looking for a place on or near a beach.

What we are flexible on is a separate cottage and a fireplace. What we%26#39;re not as flexible on is that it have a kitchenette, at least with a fridge and microwave, preferably a stove too.

We%26#39;d also like other things for young kids nearby like a playground, arcade, zoo, bowling, mini-golf, maybe kiddy rides, etc. Those types of low-key things, not necessarily Six Flags. We found Ocean Beach Park, but they said they%26#39;re not sure yet they%26#39;ll be open those weekdays. :o(

It needn%26#39;t be in CT either - anywhere in NE is fine.

Thanks, friends, I really appreciate your time!

Bella

Look at Misquamicut, RI - it would have everything you seek.

Thanks suz, I%26#39;ve been looking into it and it%26#39;s definitely a contender. Lots to see and do!

With kids that young, the water in New England will be still be very cold. We drive to New Jersey (Long Beach Island) for all the things you are looking for, and in June the water is still pretty cold. The kids will love playing in the sand, and sticking their toes in the surf. If they are adventurous, you may want to get them wet suits. Lots of kids wear them early in the season. I think last year I picked one up in Costco for on $18 as i cannot keep my (now 9) son out of the water.

.Rhode Island beaches have ocean waves that are not great for young kids. I%26#39;d suggest either one of the motels in the town of Dennis on Cape cod where the waves are usually very small because it is part for Cape Cod Sound. There%26#39;s tons of activities around too. Or check out the Tyler Family resort in Vermont. Either place the water will be pretty cool in June and you may end up in pools.

I totally agree! I have 4 kids (10, 8, 6 and 3) and we wont hit the CT beaches until at least July. Its too cold for my kids. It hasnt been that warm here until the past couple of days so the water is going to take awhile to warm up!
