Which way should I go... Which way should I go?

Hey There...

Will be in New Haven on part of a New England tour.

I can%26#39;t decide the route to go after that so I am posing this question to you all out there in tripadvisor land.

If you were traveling from New Haven, CT to Brattleboro, VT which route would you take and why? Options are Route 7 or Hwy 91

I know those routes are quite a bit different, but I want to hear why you would choose a certain way.

Thanks in advance

Which way should I go... Which way should I go?

Hwy91 is very direct and would take a couple of hours without any stops or traffic....

Route 7 is very out of the way and looks like it could take 5 to 6 hours.... If time isn%26#39;t a issue route 7 brings you through many towns. and is quite scenic as you head north...

Enjoy..

Which way should I go... Which way should I go?

Have you been on Route 7 before... is it worth driving ';out of the way'; for? Not in a big hurry, but don%26#39;t want to drive just to drive. What kind of things are there to see along 7?

Hi acsmki:

I havent driven on Route 7 to Vermont myself but I get a subscription to Yankee Magazine and they often feature this route as one to travel on for the fun of it.

yankeemagazine.com/issues/…perfectdrive

Here is a link to one of the articles, a search in that site can provide more information for you too. There are all kinds of small new england towns, antique shops and gift stores along the way.

Route 91 is straight and faster and in a way pretty but it is a true interstate where as Route 7 is a scenic New England drive, perfect if you have the time and your purpose is to sightsee.

Hope this helps, a google search on Route 7 ct or Route 7 vermont might help too.

I love the RT 7 trip. Very scenic and lots of little villages to stop and wander. If time isn%26#39;t an issue, I sure would stay away from the interstate!

You will be passing Kent Falls State Park in Ct. Many Antique shops along the way in Ma. You will also be going through Stockbridge,Ma (home to Norman Rockwell).. It is a beautiful ride with many photo opportunties.. many short hikes and walks .. It is also very rich in revolutionary history.....

I personally would not consider Route 7 for this trip. I-91 runs right through both New Haven and Brattleboro. To take Route 7 you will have to travel west a long distance and then back east in Vermont. Head right up 91, Maybe stop to eat and check out the shops in Northamton MA or drive around the country in Vermont or New Hampshire/

Yours is a NewEngland %26#39;tour%26#39; .. you won%26#39;t tour much of anything on an interstate especially when comparing it to a rural/suburban New England highway such as route 7.

Dont get me wrong, 7 also is a main arterie and has its congestion points and corporate offices line 7 through Danbury and all point southward, but that can be avoided. North of I-84 you%26#39;ll get in a true rural ride well worth the time.

New Haven north to Danbury via route 34 is a very nice ride over the Oxford dam to I-84 in Newtown, west to Danbury - north on rt 7 and into Massachusetts.

Agree Bob - that%26#39;s the route I would take.
