Mystic Seaport

We are going to visit Mystic around Memorial Day and I was wondering about the seaport. We are in our mid 20%26#39;s and enjoy history. How long do you think it will take to walk around and view the seaport? I know everyone is different, but maybe just a general thought - a few hours, half a day?

I%26#39;m trying to see how long we should stay in Mystic.

We are planning on seeing the aquarium, the seaport, maybe hit up one of the casinos and see the olde mistick village.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Mystic Seaport

I%26#39;d say 2-3 hours, to give yourself time to pop into shops and make it all through the seaport. Be sure and go to Mystic Pizza for lunch. It%26#39;s the location where the movie was shot and the pizza is excellent.

Mystic Seaport

I live a few miles from Mystic. It%26#39;s a great palce to get into the nautical mood. Mystic Seaport should take you about 90 min to see. There are a number of great things to do around Southeast Connecticut (we do them every weekend, lol).

1. Go to the Aquarium. Our Aquarium is not nearly as large as say the Bailtmore or Boston Aquarium, but its still nice.

2. Go to the center of Mystic down by the water to eat. The Steak Loft is not too bad, and you can watch the boats head out to sea.

3. Walk the center shops and streets of Mystic. Make sure you see the side streets. There are all sorts of seafaring things to see. If you like history, you love the old homes.

4. Go to Foxwoods Casino. Its only about 20 mi away. Its much nicer and more up scale than the Atlantic City Casino%26#39;s.

5. Go to Misquamicut State Beach in Rhode Island. Its the same exit as the casino (EXIT 92). Only go Right. Misquamicut Beach has suger white sand and crashing surf. I have not been to any beach better, even on the West Coast. The Atlantic gulf stream only a hundred miles off shore, keeps the ocean temps warm from June through early October. If you paln on going on May 30th, you can even take a short dip, to cool yourself off, for if you sit on the beach in that burning May sun it can get pretty Hot.

6. Go to Stonington Village. Its a small, but nice old seaport with alot of history. There is a 300-year old light house and views of Fishers Island, NY. Walk the streets and you see the homes of old Atlantic Sea Captains.

Southeastern Connecticut, along with Rhode Island, is onle of the last few resort areas with any sense of real history.

PS. If you come between May and early October, bring insect repellent. This is marsh country.

thank you so much for the information!

What would be a good hotel to stay at, that is in walking distance of mystic pizza? Thanks!

JerseyGrl: We%26#39;ve only stayed at one place in Mystic, and that was a year ago while we were out that way house hunting. The Steamboat Inn is great! About a block away is Mystic Pizza. We%26#39;ll be back in New London area the end of February and we are already booked at the Staemboat again... and I plan to make the short jaunt to Mystic Pizza! ~ Pamela

The Steak Loft is in Olde Mistick Village not downtown near the water. It does have good food.

We%26#39;re thinking about coming up to Mystic for three nights over Memorial Day Weekend. Is that too long a period? Also, what%26#39;s really the best place to stay? Price not a concern. Comfort and quiet is.

To Florider: My family was just there 4/9-10. We stayed at Howard Johnson Mystic Hotel. It%26#39;s a clean place, nice and warm pool , friendly and helpful staff. We had dinner at the center of town ';Oyster Restaurant'; next to the river. Nice place (can be romantic), and excellent food. There%26#39;s a short board walk, and a park near. They say Mystic Pizza is good (didn%26#39;t have the chance to eat there though). For breakfast, we ate at ';Kitchen Little';, a really small place with big taste (I mean food is also delicious).

By the way, the hotel is just next to I-95, Mystic Aquarium is across the street (still have to use the car though), there is also Old Mystic Village across the aquarium, where you can shop around. Nice place. There%26#39;s also an amusement park/place where they have arcades (for kids). If you have small kids, there is a dinosaur place/park where you can take pictures with the dinosaurs. Mystic is a fun family place. If your into shopping, there is Tanger%26#39;s by exit 65 of I-95

Thanks so much. Good info. Appreciate
