You could go to casinos. Other options are Mystic. Depending on time you could take train to Providence, Boston, or New Haven.

Or if you just want a day at the beach, Ocean Beach Park is beautiful - beach, pool, waterslides, mini golf, arcade - the naval academy would be an interesting tour if they have any on that date.
take a short taxi ride to visit the Coast Guard Academy and museum. Across the street is a good art museum- Lyman Allyn Art Museum. Next to that is Connecticut College which has a nice arboretum with trees, shrubs and wildflowers.
Or take a longer taxi or shuttle to Foxwoods Casino and be sure to visit the Mashantucket Pequot Museum nearby
