Hartford Cromwell Connecticut -- Crowne Plaza Hotel

We will be visiting the area for the first time May 4 - 6 2007 -- just wondering where we should go to eat -- we are looking for something mid-range in price $15.00 per meal sort of place -- also what sort of tourism places are there? what attractions should we see and what should we avoid as we are only there for the two days-- I have heard good things about our hotel -- we are looking forward to it as we haven%26#39;t been there before and we are coming from Niagara Falls Ontario Canada and want to make the most of our time

Right down the road from where you%26#39;ll be staying is the Cromwell Diner. Popular place, always busy. Good food/prices, extensive menu. It%26#39;s right near Wal-Mart.

You will also be right near rte. 99 in Rocky Hill/ Wethersfield where there are many, many restaurants including the Saybrook Fish House, Chucks Steak House and On the Border Mexican Food.

As far as attractions, what are the ages in your party?

Baci Grill in Cromwell. Pastas are $13-$15 but other entrees are more like $20-$25. Try Main St. in downtown Middletown. There are a number of reasonable ethnic(Mexican, Tibetan, vegitarian and others) and First and Last for pizza or Italian. Highlights to visit in Hartford include the Mark Twain House, State Capitol and Wadsworth Atheneum (art museum). To eat, try heading to Franklin Ave. in Hartford. There are a nuber of good Italian restaurants where dinners are probably $15-$20. You can also get a great huge grinder ( try the chicken cutlet) at Franklin Giant Grinder. For fried seafood try Tinkers or Chowderpot. You might also consider a visit to Essex, a typical CT village, a small interesting museum about the CT river and small shops to visit.

I like Rookies Sports Bar for food in Cromwell- they have the best appetizers- order a bunch and share. It is a ';local'; place, not a chain. It is quieter during the day and you will see many families eating in there. It is in the KMart plaza. Chucks Steakhouse is fantastic, but may seem pricey- $20-30 for dinner. As mentioned, rt 99 (Silas Deane highway) has too many choices- you can always find something there. I have never enjoyed the Cromwell Diner. As far as attractions- can%26#39;t think of much in May. Childrens museum in West Hartford is very good. Wadsworth Falls in Middlefield is nice if you like to hike around a bit. You can get good views from Castle Craig in Meriden (drive up) or Guiffrida park on Meriden/Berlin border (fairly easy hike up).
