Any recommendations? I%26#39;m considering Daniel Packer Inn, Go Fish, or S %26amp; P Oyster Company...are any of these any good.
OR..can someone suggest a local only known gem???
New Years Eve Dinner in Mystic
My husband and I go to Mystic a few times a year.
We have never been to the Daniel Packer Inn.
The S%26amp;P Oyster Company is very good. There is usually a very long wait, and I was disappointed with what I ordered once or twice, but it is overall a very good restaurant. The quality was good and we loved the atmosphere.
We went to Go Fish once; we would not return.
We thought about Mystic for the holiday season. The Hilton has a nice restaurant (although kind of quiet); perhaps they offer something for New Years.
Good luck, and Happy New Year, in advance!!
New Years Eve Dinner in Mystic
Hello,
I lived in Mystic for 5 years. It%26#39;s a wonderful community with some truly great restaurants and cultural destinations.
The Daniel Packer Inn (DPI) has great food and festive atmosphere. It%26#39;s a three story wooden house with exposed beams, fireplaces, and a truly old-time feel. It%26#39;s location across from the marina in the center of town can%26#39;t be beat. They have a diverse and hearty menu that consists of seafood, steak, chicken and vegetables all very savory and thoughtfully prepared. After dinner you can have a drink at the DPI pub located in the basement of the Inn. This is the most popular bar in town for locals!
Go Fish is overpriced and overrated. My friends and I would occasionally go there for the sushi bar but skip the full-dining experience. Its location in the Mystic Village shopping center outside of town leaves a lot to be desired.
The food at the S %26amp; P Oyster House isn%26#39;t very good. I brought out-of-town guests there a few times and was consistently disappointed. It caters to tourists; I%26#39;d say very few locals *ever* eat there. Its location next to the Mystic drawbridge is the big (and only) draw.
Other favorites include Bravo, Bravo and Anthony J%26#39;s-- both Italian with fantastic food, service, and atmosphere. For breakfast check-out Kitchen Little.
Enjoy and have a Happy New Year!
Hi, Jen8
I live near Mystic and the Daniel Packer Inn (which is really the Captain Daniel Packer Inn) is a solid bet. The food is always good, the servers are professional and the building is truly old New England. Personally, I am not wild about the other places you listed.
If you want to check out an alternate location about 20-25 minutes away, Timothy%26#39;s at the Lighthouse Inn in New London is another dependable fine dining location. Book early for New Years Eve.
Have a great time!
Anthony J %26#39;s is a much better choice than Bravo Bravo . You might also want to check out Noah%26#39;s in Stoningham . A lot of places will have packages . So call a few before making a decision . The Steak Loft ( Owned by Go Fish) might have an interesting package .
';Yes'; to Daniel Packer, ';no'; to S%26amp;P Oyster (average). Another option -- Flood Tide Restaurant at the Inn at Stonington. Love Noah%26#39;s in Stonington borough, but it%26#39;s small and they don%26#39;t (or didn%26#39;t last time I went) take reservations, so consider that in your plans.
My hub %26amp; I have been coming here for years, yet never heard of DPI until this forum. We gave it a try in October and a few times this week!
The atmosphere is great. It has a great pub downstairs for hanging out, if that%26#39;s what you%26#39;re going for. The live music one evening was excellent.
The food is NOT, in my opinion, a sure bet. Once I ordered a seafood pasta dish that was excellent. Another time, I ordered a hazelnut chicken dish: delicious!!!
Another time, I ordered a vegetable Napolitan (I think that%26#39;s what it%26#39;s called) dish in the upstairs dining room. That was delicious, but high-priced. The bill for two adults came to $87 ($105 we paid with our tip). My husband had a steak (filet mignon, I think) that evening and I had the veg napol (veggies %26amp; parmesan on pasta w/sauce. I had a couple of cups of tea %26amp; one beer. Hub had maybe two beers. We shared a dessert.
We also went there for lunch. I ordered a chicken sandwich that came with fries: not a good choice. Bland chicken breast (tasted boiled) on a white roll. The fries were so drenched in grease that I only had a few, and was sorry I did (and trust me, I%26#39;m no health freak! I like to eat healthy, but love my fries!). Gross.
Yes, I would return for the atmosphere, but I still like many other ';tourist'; places just as much. We love Steak Loft, had an amazing meal tonight at S%26amp;P Oyster, and Mystic Pizza (probably considered very tourist-y) can be counted on for a huge plate of tasty pasta! We also went to Anthony J%26#39;s the other evening %26amp; I had a lovely pizza in a nice atmosphere.
At DPI, my husband also had soup %26amp; ordered broccoli, so perhaps these appetizers made the bill higher. I had forgotten about these and want to give a fair idea of why the bill was $87.
