We%26#39;re planning a 2 week vacation throughout New England spending 1-2 days in one place. Can you recommend lunch/dinner places on a small to medium budget?
I did see the forum on Pizza in New Haven/East New Haven and am taking those notes with me.
Dining on a modest to medium budget
In a city of 128,000 with over 150 outstanding restaurants this is a tough question. I think your best bet is probably Claine%26#39;s on Chapel St. It%26#39;s a favorite spot for Yalies and their parents. Huge portions and the menu%26#39;s so varied--Greek, Indian, Italian, slabs of Ukranian coffee cake-- you don%26#39;t notice that it is in fact, all vegetarian.
Hungry Yalies trying to survive on the university%26#39;s stingy financial aid go to Ivy Noodle for filling and cheap eats.
Pizza is legendary in New Haven. Best best saccording to USA Today are Sally%26#39;s, Pepe%26#39;s and Modern and locals concur with that judgement. White clam pizza is divine. They are in Wooster Square neighborhood, New Haven%26#39;s Little Italy. Don%26#39;t miss Libby%26#39;s, ice cream and sweets to die for, esp. tiramisu and hazlenut gelato. Saturday is a green market where you can munch on fresh local produce.
Best bet of the 3 eat and read options is Atticus Bookstore and Cafe, also on Chapel.
If you dig deep and decide to splurge you can%26#39;t go wrong with Union League Club, Roomba or Bentara.
When you explore try to get into the Yale University Art Gallery sculpture garden if the endless renovation finally gets completed.
The British Art Center is a pilgrimage site for architectual buffs. The gift shop has charming, elegant and some bargain gifts to take home.
The 3 historic churches on the Green are gorgeous. Trinity is loaded with Tiffany stained glass windows.
You will love New Hven. It is a noble city.

Try Chow at 964 Chapel Street. You can order a little or alot. Convenient, right off the green.

Thanks for your suggestions. I%26#39;m printing them out and taking them with us. We%26#39;ll decide from these suggestions on-the-spot. I hope to post post-trip to tell what worked/didn%26#39;t work for us.
If you are one budget but want healthy, super high quality food in a really friendly and casual place I%26#39;d recommend going to Miya%26#39;s Sushi in New Haven. Miya%26#39;s offers twenty sushi rools under the $3.75 range which means you can have dinner there for six to ten dollars if you so choose.. I eat at Miya%26#39;s Sushi four days a week and NEVER get sick of it.
Abate%26#39;s on Wooster street is inexpensive and has a varied menu of terriffic Italian food and seafood. It also has great tasting pizza.
Not a fancy place, more of a cafe style but you won%26#39;t be disappointed.
