a special celebration venue advice

I%26#39;m looking for a really special place for my family to gather to celebrate my father%26#39;s 80th birthday in late September (8 adults and 4 teens.) We want to meet roughly mid-way between Boston and NY City, somewhere in CT. Most importantly, we need a great restaurant, and price is not an issue. We won%26#39;t have much time to site see, so the location is not critical, but we would still like to find a nicer hotel nearby (or even possibly a very nice hotel with an excellent restaurant attatched.)

I vote for the Copper Beach Inn in Ivoryton CT http://www.copperbeechinn.com/?source=google

Even if your family doesn%26#39;t gamble, it might be convenient to stay at the Mohegan Sun and have dinner at the Tuscany restaurant. If you do- ask for a private room - i am thinking of the small wine cellar that might be perfect. Rooms at the hotel are beautiful and browsing thru the shops is fun. Spa and pool also. Nice time of year to drive through that area.

For best accommodation, I would pick the Copper Beech Inn in Ivoryton. Note: I wold recommend rooms in the main house not the annex - more expensive but much nicer. Dinner is a choice of their onsite restaurant which is excellent but stuffy or the informal brasserie Pip. Breakfast is excellent. However if you%26#39;re willing to venture off-site, I would recommend Restaurant du Village in Chester, about 10 min drive away, which is simply sublime. I have just been to both these places, so my review is current! The town of Essex is nearby, good for a stroll the next day, and you can also get a boat trip on the Connecticut river from River Quest, downtown Essex.

Alternatively, go for Mystic (where I live). Hotels are not the best. I%26#39;d probably go for the Mystic Marriott, tho note that it is not in downtown Mystic. If you want downtown, I%26#39;d recommend the Steamboat Inn. For traditional New England fare, the Daniel Packer Inne, tho can be rather loud. I don%26#39;t rate any restaurants in Mystic very high, sorry. Water St cafe in next door Stonington is excellent but you can not make a reservation and it%26#39;s noisy. Plenty of boat trips available on the Mystic River - check out Voyager Cruises or Mystic Seaport.

Enjoy!

Bee and Thistle Inn in Old Lyme is very popular and in a lovely location,. It is also easy access off of Route 95. I don%26#39;t know if they still have rooms. It would be easy to get further info. They have a website. I don%26#39;t know it, but just Google the name and location of the Inn. I%26#39;m sure if they don%26#39;t have accomodations, the website is likely to have a link for that information.

The Inn at Stonington is beautiful in a quaint and quiet area on the shoreline. For a great restaurant where you can dine by the fire on the water, Skipper%26#39;s Dock is a perfect choice. I%26#39;m sure your father would love this.
