good city for mid 20s couple

Hi, I%26#39;m from central//southern New Jeresy and I%26#39;m trying to come up with a fun weekend trip for my boyfriend and I. We don%26#39;t like driving too far ( NYC is about an hour and a half from where we live). Any suggestions of a city/town to spend the weekend at? A variety of restaurants/bars, a small shopping/downtown area, and maybe an aquarium or theater would be great. any places like that in CT that are only an hour or two from NYC?

New Haven is about 2 hours and has good restaurants/bars, a small shopping area in town, and a few theaters. For an aquarium, you could go to Mystic, but that would be another hour from NYC.

Try the Fairfield-Westport-Norwalk area. It is about an hour from NYC, depending on traffic.

Both Westport and Fairfield have nice walkable downtown areas with a variety of restaurants.

Westport has a theater (plays, not movies). Fairfield has two theaters; one each at Fairfield and Sacred Heart Universities.

Farifield also has a movie complex with 8+ screens and a smaller second run movie theater downtown.

In Norwalk there is the Sono area which has the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, an IMAX theater, a multiplex movie theater and a number of bars and restaurants.

I agree with Bernie, but you could even go a little further south and book in Stamford - Two theaters with plays, great restaurants, and a shopping mall, plus lots of hotels - A ten minute drive either way will put you in Greenwich or South Norwalk, which have great little shopping areas - and there is the Maritime Center in Sono - a small aquarium and an IMAX movie theater.
