Visiting Sharon - what to do?

We have arranged a home exchange to Sharon for 2008. Any ideas what to do around here and which month is best to visit April or May? Many thanks for any help.

Visiting Sharon - what to do?

anyone offer further help please?

I grew up in CT and never heard of Sharon! here is a link to the town website:

Shasron is a very small rural-type of town in CT. There is not much going on in Sharon but you will be so close to the NY border, I would recommend heading over to Rhinebeck and Hyde Park area in NY. The Culinary Institute is there and has great dining options. Lots of antiquing in the area as well. The Franklin Roosevelt Institute is there as well. Check out the threads for Rhinebeck in this sight. Enjoy!

I would concur that Sharin is in the ';sticks'; meaning a little bit away from any major attraction. I drive through Sharon on the way to my relatives house in Rhinebeck, NY. The town looks nice enough. I always wonder what people do for a living being so far away from big towns/businesses. There are some big/old homes in this area that look to be ';old money';.

This is what I would suggest; 1) Hike the Appalacian trail. This is a National Park trail, well marked, good views in parks. You can pick it up in Salisbury, CT not far from Sharon. This is the link to the offical web site, but there are plenty of other you can check out. http://www.nps.gov/appa/. There is alos information on the Town of Salisbury%26#39;s page: http://salisburyct.us/

2) Salisbury, CT is a very nice town with some cute shops and town green. There is a great restaurant in town called the White Hart Inn. I know you%26#39;ll enjoy this place. We had a brunch here that was to die for. And it%26#39;s very New England. http://www.whitehartinn.com/

3) You%26#39;ll be close to the Metro North train station at Wassaic, NY. You can easily take the train to Grand Central Station in New York City. I don%26#39;t think I need to explain what there is to see in NYC-everything. I still haven%26#39;t been to the Statue of Liberty and I%26#39;ve been two hours away for my whole life. Here is the link to the Wassaic train station: as0.mta.info/mnr/stations/station_detail.cfm…

I think that the town of Salisbury-Lakeville%26#39;s web page lists most of the things to do. One thing I know I really enjoy that is listed in the Norman Rockwell Museum in the State of MA. Here is the link for the combined town website. Use the directory for more information and good luck.

I%26#39;d vote for May. No guarantee, of course, but the weather is likely to be much nicer, in general.

We%26#39;re right next door to Sharon in Cornwall. I just spent a morning in the emergency room at Sharon Hosital a few weeks ago LOL.

It is very quiet here, but it is also beautiful. We enjoy lots of rides in the countryside. There are little country fairs here and there around the state. You could spend a day hiking Kent Falls, or raft/kayak the Housatonic River. There%26#39;s quite an active little theater in Sharon.

Lots of quaint little towns to explore.

I would pick May over April. It may be a little warmer.

Sharon is off route 4 coming off route 7 in CT. You can go down to Kent, a really nice little town with a great restaurant, The Fife and Drum. You can picnic at Kent Falls State Park and also hike the trails there. You could also go up into Mass. as you aren%26#39;t far from the state line. I would drive up into Stockbridge, MA and walk around the town. The Red Lion Inn is great for lunch or dinner, but dress code may apply for themain dinning room. You can visit the Norman Rockwell museum there also. Connecticut isn%26#39;t large at all so you can really explore the whole western part of the state. It will be a lttle bit warmer in May but not hot. Connecticut doesn%26#39;t warm up too much until late summer. I would just drive route 7. If you have all day, you can drive down to Danbury and shop at the Danbury Fair Mall. You may want to explore Litchfield, another lovely town with quaint restaurants. Again, nothing is too far to travel. I would get a map of CT and plan from there.

We love that ride up to Stockbridge! We%26#39;ll head up to the Rockwell Museum, then head back starting at the Lions Den at The Red Lion Inn for a quick bite and a beverage, and kind of pub crawl our way home. There%26#39;s lots of nice stops for window shopping!

The OP is from the UK. We took a friend to Rockwell Museum once and when we got there they said %26#39;this is incredible, but who is Norman Rockwell?';. We forget he is beloved in the US, but most of the rest of the world never heard of him. Our friend is from the UK!

The Norman Rockwell Museum is one of our favorites as well. That area is great.
