I will be on family vacation in June from the UK and have a full day to travel from Worcester, MA to New Haven, CT. I would like to use this journey to see something of northwest CT.
Any ideas on things to see, scenic routes, places for lunch etc. would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance...

The Litchfield town center may be interesting to you. It is a typical New England town green that has preserved the look of the colonial days with stately Victorian homes, white washed churches, and a stone court house. There is a small museum there (the Litchfield Historical society), litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org/museum.html
what is allegedly the first law school in the US (tours available)....http://www.litchfieldhistoricalsociety.org/lawschool.html
There are some cute places to eat right on the green, such as the Village Cafe. Also in Washington, CT is the stately Mayflower Inn, where Eleanor Roosevelt used to go to get away. They have a restuarant and tap room. My favorite place is in Woodbury, CT: Carole Peck%26#39;s Good news Cafe. Great food and even better desserts. A lot of people go antique shopping in Woodbury.

All sounds good. Many thanks.
There%26#39;s also the RT 7 corridor that will take you to the covered bridge at West Cornwall, Kent Falls State Park, the lovely town of Ken where you can pickup an easy lunch.
I would suggest The Berkshires area in southwest Massachusetts. There are beautiful drives, quaint towns and wonderful museums. We love going to the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge.
We love the Rockwell Museum also. But guess what? We took a friend from the UK there once and their first question was ';Who is Normal Rockwell?'; We forget, he%26#39;s an American icon!
They still enjoyed the visit!
