Researching for Vacation in 09

My husband and I just returned from a week in Englewood, FL. We go there every year and love the Old Florida quiet/privateness of it. After we returned, we decided as much as we love it, it%26#39;s time for a change. We%26#39;d like to try a similar location but in New England.

I have been scouring google looking for a old fashioned seaside New England town and came up with Guilford. Can anyone tell me if this is accurate, and if not (or even so) does anyone have any other suggestions? I%26#39;d like to look around at 2 or 3 more towns.

We are budget travelers who will have 2 children under the age of 3. We are looking for a quiet week or long weekend at a beach cottage, some good seafood, and some fun digging in the sand. That%26#39;s all. Nothing fancy, we don%26#39;t even eat out very often just 2-3 times during a week.

Thanks!

Michele

Guilford meets your description but I think you will find few rental opportunities there. You might have more luck Old Lyme.

I sugguest Mystic, for that very old seaport type city...however, it is a resort town and very busy and a bit expensive...but there is lots to do search the area on google and u%26#39;ll see! Not far from beaches. There isn%26#39;t a whole lot to do in Guilford but shop. Other sugguestions are Old Saybrook. New Port Rhode Island is also fun and near beaches and the old mansions....shops..

Id agree with others who said Newport, Rhode Island. Also Block Island, Ri is really nice too. If you definitely want to do CT then I would say Mystic b/c there is a seaport, village and aquarium that would be good for kids. You can stay cheaper in the surrounding towns of Mystic.

There are small, private beach communities in Mystic that are great for families w/small children. They have protected private beaches on the sound that are great for kids to play in the sand, playgrounds, very family-oriented w/private roads that are safe for walking freely without worry, and they%26#39;re only minutes from historical Mystic and Stonington and other villages. Plus you%26#39;ll probably have a deck %26amp; grill to cook for yourselves, or a quick drive to several great ';clam shacks'; %26amp; ice cream stands.
